September 7th:

THE PLAZA PROJECT PRESENTS Luftwerk

 

 

WHAT: As the 2017 grand finale, The Plaza Project welcomes Luftwerk, the renowned artistic collaboration of Petra Bachmaier and Sean Gallero, to Two North Riverside Plaza to create an intervention of sound called White Wanderer. Drawing from actual recordings of Larsen C – the rapidly melting fourth largest ice shelf in Antarctica– the artists will create a haunting and contemplative soundtrack for the outdoor plaza that reminds viewers of the threat of sea level rise and climate change. The installation, developed in partnership with the environmental advocacy group NRDC, will be on view and open to the public free of charge from September 7 through October 31st.

WHAT: Proceeds of the 19th Annual Dinner benefit the Harold E. Eisenberg Foundation’s real estate education programs and breakthrough gastrointestinal cancer research at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University. The evening is also a great way to network and connect!

Gary Comer Youth Center Luncheon

WHAT: The Gary Comer Youth Center (CGYC) will host it’s annual benefit luncheon, this year paying homage to all elements locally grown. The event will feature keynote speaker, Juan Salgado, chancellor at City Colleges of Chicago, along with Elske restaurant owner and head pastry chef, Anna Posey, who will demo one of her famous delectable treats along side GCYC students, with takeaways for guests to enjoy. Guests will hear from youth involved with various center programs, from urban agriculture to visual and performing arts. The event will support the development of local youth at the Grand Crossing center.

STOKED AWARDS GALA

WHAT: STOKED welcomes 300 adventure-seeking philanthropists to support their  mission of providing mentorship to disadvantaged youth through action sports culture. Guests will enjoy dinner and cocktails to toast the 13-year history of STOKED in New York City, 12 years in Los Angeles and the launch of STOKED in Chicago last Spring. The evening will present the STOKED Awards, honoring individuals that have fearlessly championed the cause.
